The Article 9 training is a 3–4 hour class designed to meet the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) requirements for all providers working with individuals with developmental disabilities. This course teaches participants about individual rights, positive behavior supports, prohibited practices, and the responsibilities of staff in maintaining dignity and safety in care.
Article 9 Training is a state-mandated course required by the Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) for all professionals and caregivers who provide support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

The course ensures that support staff understand how to create safe, respectful, and supportive environments while complying with Arizona’s legal and ethical standards. Emphasis is placed on treating individuals with dignity and utilizing the least restrictive methods of support.
Upon successful completion, participants earn a three-year certification, as required by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES).
