The Article 9 training is a 3–4 hour class designed to meet the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) requirements for all providers working with individuals with developmental disabilities. This course teaches participants about individual rights, positive behavior supports, prohibited practices, and the responsibilities of staff in maintaining dignity and safety in care.

Article 9 Training is a state-mandated course required by the Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) for all professionals and caregivers who provide support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

This training provides a comprehensive overview of:

  • Arizona’s Article 9 regulations
  • Individual rights and responsibilities
  • Behavior intervention guidelines
  • Prohibited techniques and reportable incidents
  • Positive Behavior Support (PBS) principles

The course ensures that support staff understand how to create safe, respectful, and supportive environments while complying with Arizona’s legal and ethical standards. Emphasis is placed on treating individuals with dignity and utilizing the least restrictive methods of support.

Upon successful completion, participants earn a three-year certification, as required by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES).

Stay compliant, respectful, and empowered—and make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of those you serve.
